Through a partnership with Denver’s Great Kids Head Start, cmDance is providing jazz, swing, and movement classes to preschool children throughout Denver.
In the 2011-2012 school year, cmDance taught over 260 preschool dance and movement classes in 13 schools across 4 districts.
cmDance provides the opportunity for students to excel in their physical and creative development through a fun and energetic dance program, while at the same time exposing them to Vintage Jazz music and movement, as well as Latin Jazz music and movement: the roots of many of the United States’ modern dance styles. We allow the children a chance to express themselves through the language of dance, increasing their creativity, sequencing, and memory, and teaching them to appreciate music and movement as something that can be a potential part of their futures.
The most important objectives of our program are as follows:
- Promote age appropriate physical health, movement, and exercise.
- Expand adolescent motor skills, balance, coordination, control, imagination and creativity, memory and sequencing, and other abilities.
- Expose students to Vintage Jazz music and dancing, as well as Latin music and dancing, and have as much fun as possible with potentially their first experience with it.
- Give students the chance to perform for their peers and/or parents while developing confidence, showmanship, and teamwork.
