Instructors

My name is Natalia (she/her) and I am a jazz dancer, teacher and performer from Southern California and based in St. Louis, Missouri. I have been dancing most of my life but discovered Swing dance in Southern California in 2010 when I was 17 years old, falling in love first with Balboa and Lindy Hop and soon after venturing out into Solo Jazz, Collegiate Shag and Carolina Shag. What I love most about Swing dance is Jazz Music and the freedom to improvise through movement, whether solo or with a partner. Being a part of this community and creating together with others, whether in a class, social dance or jam setting is a beautiful and vulnerable experience that I feel privileged to be a part of.

Jacob started swing dancing in 2003 and has been hooked ever since.

Jacob discovered his love of Balboa in 2005 and began traveling to various events and competitions not much later. His first love is social dancing but he also enjoys competing as a way to set goals and push himself. As a teacher he enjoys using a mix of humorous analogies and serious instruction to create a fun and exciting learning environment.

Jacob has been teaching at national and international events for the last 15 years. He has honed his ability to break down and analyze the dance to make complex and dynamic movement happen with ease and comfort. He is known for his intricate, yet traditionally based, Pure Bal, as well as his unique shapes and movement in Bal Swing. He is also known for his continuous flow and effortless way of floating across the dance floor, while maintaining a highly rhythmic feel.

Jacob’s primary goal in all his partnerships has been to connect in a way that works for both him and his partner to find what they can create together. This has resulted in numerous placements and wins at all levels of competition, but more importantly, having ever-evolving social dances.

Collegiate Shag - Jordan Hunter

With over 7 years of experience dancing Collegiate Shag, Jordan Hunter (USA) brings his passion for the dance to the floor and the studio, where he focuses on fundamentals, technique, musicality, and exploring new ideas. Jordan has been teaching Collegiate Shag weekly in Berlin and across all of Europe since 2021. He is a decorated competitor in both Europe and the US where he has won contests at events such as Camp Hollywood, the BCN Shag Festival, and the Warsaw Shag Festival. Jordan is known for his unique style, creative combos, and flow within the dance.

Bal & Shag - Grace Babbes & Blake Thiessen

As Southern California college students, both Blake and Grace discovered swing dancing at their respective universities and were instantly hooked. With SoCal’s rich history and dozens of the world’s best dancers and instructors, they developed a relentless obsession for Lindy, Balboa, and Collegiate Shag, and regularly social danced up to five nights a week.  Both together and with other partners, they have won a variety of national and international competitions including ILHC, Camp Hollywood, California Balboa Classic, Hot Rhythm Holiday, and Camp Jitterbug. Blake and Grace share a deep reverence for history of the dance and music, especially the original dancers from Southern California, and often teach classes that focus on particular styles and techniques they used. As instructors, they emphasize beautiful basics, the joy of connected partnered movement, and how to connect the dance to the music.

make sure you have read the Lollyshagger handbook, so you pack the right outfit, know the performance and rehearsal times, and understand the performance track policies.

If you have questions about the choreography instructions, please reach out to Jacob Spinney or myself directly for assistance.

We are excited to work with you all to make another great performance.

Music

Live music Friday and Saturday nights with Naomi & Her Handsome Devils!

There’s a moment at every concert when a familiar song suddenly feels unfamiliar—in the best way. It hits deeper, louder, harder.

Live music isn’t just heard—it’s felt. The bass thumps through your chest. The drums shake the ground beneath your shoes. That deep, physical connection to sound rewires how your brain processes emotion. Loudness alone can heighten intensity, but the fact that you’re surrounded by hundreds of other people feeling it too? That’s what I feel with Naomi & her handsome devils!

April Hornbuckle

Head DJ

"DJ Peach"

Phoenix’s favorite Georgia transplant, DJ Peach, discovered her passion for swing dance when she was pulled into a class in 2016. It became a meaningful way for her to connect movement with the music she loved from a young age. Over the past nine years, she has been deeply involved in the swing dance community. Locally, she is organizing and DJing weekly events and hosting workshops and community gatherings to support local DJs and nurture emerging talent. Nationally, she has DJ'd and organized events on both coasts, including DJ Coordinating Summer Swing Fest (AZ) and Swing Out Savannah (GA). She loves uncovering fun hidden gems to share with fellow dancers.

Ashley Cohen Conner

Ashley has been dancing for almost a decade, focusing on Lindy Hop, Balboa, Shag (Collegiate and Carolina!), and Solo Jazz. She started DJing at local weekly venues in Mesa, Arizona, and quickly learned that she loved sharing the music she enjoyed with fellow dancers. She particularly loves Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, Buddy Johnson, Roosevelt Sykes, and Helen Humes.

Ashley has DJ’d all over Arizona, most notably at SWINGdepenDANCE, Phoenix Lindy Exchange, and BadAZ Balboa. Additionally, she has DJ’d across the southwest for LA Jitterbug, Downbeat Swing, Salt City Stomp, SwingDanceVegas, 505 Swing, and Boise City Swings. She is excited to add Hot Jazz Jamboree to this list and can’t wait to share her sets with you!

Lorne Fultonberg

After years of dancing Lindy Hop, Lorne Fultonberg finally realized the root of his addiction: the music, of course! Since, he has fallen in love with anything that swings, regularly DJing Lindy, Balboa, and Shag dances at Boulder Swing Dance, the Mercury Café, the Denver Turnverein, and the Rhythm Lounge. He's also spun sets at events like Lindy on the Rocks, Scissortail Swing, Diversion Weekend, and the Global Online Social. Lorne loves mixing and matching styles that reflect his playful nature on the dance floor. He firmly believes you can never play enough of Benny Goodman's small groups and has soft spots for Teddy Wilson, Fats Waller and Maxine Sullivan. But he also believes in giving love to the contemporary jazz groups preserving and pushing the music forward.

Miranda Whiting

Fast Feet Contest Queen!

Miranda’s love for jazz began at a young age listening to records and watching old movie musicals. Her early collection of jazz music helped her meet the need for DJs at her local dance scene in South Carolina, and it quickly fueled a passion for finding songs to inspire dancers to hit the floor. Since then, she has livened up dance venues from the Southeast to New England and now calls Colorado home. She has a knack for finding the feeling of the room and playing to it as if it was tailored for each individual dancer, and she can’t wait to do the same for you.

Leea Kuronen

Leea started dancing when she was just 6-years old. She had been begging her parents to enroll her to ballet classes, and finally they gave in. After a few years of ballet training Leea wanted to explore other dance styles, so she picked up hip hop, and later, street dance, show dance (theatrical jazz dance), and later returned to adult ballet. In 2013 Leea signed up for Lindy hop classes and immediately fell in love with the dance form. She soon dived deeper into vernacular jazz and started learning blues, balboa, and solo jazz. Leea has been teaching and DJing since 2015. She's currently teaching as well as choreographing and performing vernacular jazz dances in the Denver metro area.

Caryn Carrasco

CMDance Director

Caryn grew up in a dancing and musical family, her parents having met in the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, and her grandfather played the guitar, the accordian, and the bandoneon. She grew up listening to all types of jazz and blues music. She started her formal dance training at age 12, and became a Ballroom, Latin, Disco, and Swing Dance instructor in the many years that followed. In 1999, Caryn found herself enveloped in the cultural revival of American swing music and dance and founded CMDance that year. Frankie Manning and Norma Miller, swing dancing legends from Harlem's Savoy Ballroom, traveled to cities around the world, bringing the spirit and movement of America's roots to a new generation. Inspired by this global dance movement, CMDance came to life as the first Colorado organization responsible for world-class social dance education and arts programming. This year, Caryn continues to be the Executive Director of the organization as it celebrates years of inspiring movement in dancers of all ages.
